Abstract
Lopsidedness in the management of educational facilities are common features in the Nigeria educational system. This poses a great concern in Owerri-North L.G.A of Imo State, Nigeria as it has deteriorated the value and standard of education in the Area. This study is aimed at management of post-primary schools facilities in Owerri North Local Govt. Area of Imo State using Geographic Information System approach. The methodology adopted involved the acquisition of the GPS coordinates of post-primary schools, attribute data, photographic coverage of sites, map of Owerri-North, directory of government approved post-primary schools, population figures and general information of the study area. Data processing and analysis was done using Arc GIS 10 software and G7 Towin software was used for processing GPS data. The result of the database queries showed that about 18 out of 22 schools have more than 50 students per class making each class overpopulated, about 11 government schools are lacking classrooms, only 3 schools have more qualified teachers with B.Ed and M.Ed Degrees as min and max Qualifications. It is therefore recommended that the owners of such primary schools should improve the standard and quality of education by putting in place implementations that will improve the quality of Education.
